I am pleased to say a few words about our Summer 2013 season. By all accounts, this has been a very successful summer of softball. We had a lot of interesting, exciting and fun times together. We played competitively and won a lot of games. Our record of 18-5, two championships, a second and fourth place finish was surely impressive. We learned, sacrificed and took on the challenges we faced. On and off the field, we grew in character and maturity. You earned a great amount of respect as players and as fine young ladies.
Going forward I would like to increase our efforts on individual player development and continue to play at a higher level of competition. As players, you are mostly in control of your own progress. As coaches, we have identified areas to work on and will have team and group workout opportunities. Please remember that it is your self discipline which will make the biggest difference in your progress. It will always be that way both on the softball field and in life. Work hard and practice correctly.
I will be firming up our Fall schedule and final roster for this Fall soon. I have a tentative schedule update on the schedule tab. Best wishes to you as you begin school this week.

Upcoming Tournaments
I have been exploring our next couple of tournament options, and here is how it shakes out. USSSA Team Worth Shootout, Sumter on July 27, 28, looks like a good opportunity to play. At least six 16u teams will be competing and there will be some prizes, giveaways, apparel and awards package. I have spoken with the director and early next week he will know if it will be a one day or two day. I am also keeping an eye on an ASA tournament for that weekend which is a combined 18u/16u in Myrtle Beach and WFC in No. Charleston. I would still like for us to play teams in our age group at this time however. Plan on playing for sure, as we will know more details, first of next week.
Beyond that, there is a WFC World Series tournament in MYRTLE BEACH from Tuesday through Saturday, August 6 to 10. Already eight 16u teams from NY, NJ, OH, MD and SC. Entry fee is is higher but no travel, gas, hotel or gate fee for spectators. Plenty of softball too! Three pool games then seeded double elimination. Pool games on Tuesday and Wednesday (one or two each day), bracket starts on Thursday. Games are played from 8 to 3:30. Saturday is for the top three teams to battle it out. www.playwfc.org. I would like to see us compete at this venue. I am not aware of any players being away or out of town that week. Please review this as I must sign up for this in the next week if we are all on board. This is a big tournament and should be a good test for us. Coach

Updated July
This weekends tournament is not meant to be and was cancelled because of wet weather. I would like to focus on the USSSA Team Worth Shootout on July 27, 28th in Sumter. We should have everyone healthy and present and there are already several teams signed up. This should be a nice tournament with awards and giveaways! I would like to re-schedule our team practice for Sunday 14th at 5:30 at NMB high school. I look forward to getting together again, as there are several important areas we will work on to continue our successful season. Thanks everyone for your flexibility. Also, I will know more about the dates for our fundraiser soon.

USSSA Tournament Champions, Lexington, SC
Overall, a very successful weekend as we rolled into Columbia SC. We came out on top with the best record and another Tournament Championship in another rain shortened tournament. Offensively, our balanced attack resulted in a team batting avg. of .417 vs our opponents .142. We scored 45 runs to our opponents 10. Mckenzie and Taylor combined for a total of 29 strikeouts and scattered only 8 hits! We learned a lot about ourselves and most importantly we showed a lot of character, growth and belief in ourselves. You deserve much credit as a team to battle with timely hits and aggressive base running and win close games and fight back to win even when things got tough! Great experience. All along the way you showed a lot of class and sportsmanship. Well Done!

State Championship Tournament
Blessed with talent, chemistry and some early success, we find ourselves challenged once again. There are no tournaments in Myrtle Beach. Georgetown and N. Charleston have been cancelled. Below is the event in Lexington (Columbia) held this weekend. I saw many of these teams and this level of competition last weekend at the Dynamite Classic. I came away feeling that we match up well and that these are the caliber teams we need to be playing. There is room for 1 more team at the 16u. We have 11 players planning to play this weekend. This venue would require us to be at the field by 8:00 Saturday morning and a one night stay that night. We would need to pull together and arrange carpooling and overnight arrangements to make this work. I need to know by 6:00pm today if everybody can make this happen. Otherwise our next tnmt is scheduled for July 13. 16u | ||||

Look'n Good!
An athletic and competitive group of girls make up this year's Cyclones travel softball team. Top talent pitching, ball trackers with strong arms in the outfield, a solid infield, and a strong catcher round off the defense. A nice balance of hitting power and very fast team speed! With some time, patience and hard work, we will have fun playing some competitive softball.
Make-up practice and Extra Hitting
Makeup and Hitting Workout on Wednesday, June 5 WHS 4:30. All are encouraged and welcome.

Summer 2013
Dear Players and Cyclones Family,
I am quite pleased about the opportunity we have together as a team. We have a well rounded group of strong athletes with the desire to improve and be more competitive. I am also confident that we have the plan to help you become more fundamentally sound and versatile players. We will come together and experience the thrill of intensity in the spirit of competition. Be prepared to train hard and have fun. Let us be gracious that each of our families is making sacrifices so that you can play. And naturally we will always have the utmost respect for each other and every aspect of the game itself.
Please review the proposed tournament dates. If you have not done so already, let me know of any conflicts you may have. Looks like a June 8th opener in Myrtle Beach. First workout and meeting on Friday May 24th. Be ready to go at 5:00 to 7:45 at WHS. The Calendar tab above lists the dates and proposed tournaments. $300 is the cost for the summer.
With Kind Regards,
Coach Paul
