Success in softball hitting depends alot on your mental approach and toughness. Here's the "rub" on the ready and prepared hitter in the batters box.
1. Stay Positive - Visualize the positive outcome, solid contact or the perfect bunt.
2. Focus on the present - don't dwell on a bad at bat or missed cut. Calm and aggressive, focus on the task at hand. Remember, good hitters don't succeed six or seven times out of ten!
3. Focus and mentally dare the pitcher to throw you a hittable pitch. Too often girls take the perfect strike and behind in the count early on. Remember, pitchers like to get ahead in the count early and are many times likely to throw that first strike down the pipe.
4. Stay Cool and confident and focused- Step out, deep breath, pre-hit routine and be ready to drive the ball. Manage the negative emotions and focus confidently on be confident in your ability.
5. Learn to anticipate - Pay attention to patterns the pitcher shows, particularly with the off speed pitch. You are ready for the fast ball but know the change up is more likely when you are behind in the count. Check out how the defense is positioned to possibly gain some advantage.
