Coaches insight

Today's practice was was a huge step forward for our team. We coaches had a practice plan designed to address our needs and you girls stepped up admirably. We effectively tightened up our defensive schemes, and you girls focused pretty good even as you worked in different positions. Collectively as a team, we have a special versatility with all of our players competent in multiple positions in the lineup. The coaching staff now has a better idea about how we will position you in ways to best help our team. We will continue to emphasize and expect that you play aggressively and test your limits throughout these session so that when game pressure hits, you are able handle it routinely. Fitness training will continue to be incorporated in our practices. The coaches are happy to see that we truly improve as a team as our time together passes.

Scrimmage Summary

In our first scrimmage, with two key players out and one brand new team member, five players hit safely in 2 at bats against some excellent pitching. Most everybody else put the bat on the ball at least once. Pitchers showed good control and velocity against a very good hitting team. We recognized that the defense will require hard work, mental alertness and better coordination. I am confident that with the talent we have, we will begin to tighten up rather quickly. We also had the wonderful opportunity to see excellent hitting, fielding and team play in our opponents, the Crushers. They deserve alot of credit and respect. All in all, his was a good day for us to better understand ourselves so that we can move forward and improve as a team.

I am happy to announce that we will be hosting the Coastal Crushers on Sunday, May 20th at 1:30pm at WHS for our first scrimmage. Please make arrangements to arrive at 12:45 for warm-up and a prompt start time of 1:15 to 1:30. We will conclude by 4:30. Uniforms will be handed out for you to change into, so arrive a few minutes early.

Practice Follow-up

Players and coaches have worked hard to prepare us for action. Along the way, each player has been coached on specific areas requiring attention. Work on them.
Between now and Sunday, you need to run, catch and throw on your own. You are also expected to read and mentally review the defensive strategies and assignments for your position described in your players manual. See you Sunday!

Cyclones Practice

Hitting Skills Practice- we will hold two hitting practices this week, and two team practices next week.
Thursday, May 10th at 5:30 and Saturday May 12th at 10:30am.
This will allow players the  necessary work on hitting and bunting. Please attend one or both. Six or seven players getting one or two hits a game will make us competitive! Let's go for it!
All Team Practice-
Monday, May 14 at 5:30 to 7:30pm. Important work on positions and defense strategies. Some offense plays also. The second practice will be announced on Monday.
As a new team, I believe we are making good progress towards being prepared for the season which starts on June 2nd. Focused hitting workouts and all team practices will make our preparation more productive and enjoyable!
